Flat Roof Insulation

Insulate your flat roof and save your heating and energy bills

Flat roof construction – which is defined as anything with up to 10° of pitch – was a popular roofing system immediately post war right through to the 1970’s. Today, only a small number of properties are constructed with a flat roof, but the insulation values are much higher.

Properties built with a flat roof originally in the the post war period were usually built with very little or no insulation at all.

How can you insulate my flat roof?

A flat roof should preferably be insulated from above, known as a warm roof insulation system. To do this a layer of rigid insulation board can be added directly to the existing roofing layer and covered with a new weatherproof layer, such as EPDM rubber. If your flat roof needs to be replaced anyway, you must now insulate to comply with the building regulations.

It is also possible to insulate a flat roof from underneath.

If you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit or qualify under the Local Authority Flex scheme, you could receive free flat roof insulation.

Save energy, save money

With up to 25% of heat lost through an uninsulated roof, flat roof insulation is a quick and easy way to save energy and save money. According to the Energy Saving Trust, you could save similar amounts on your heating bills to loft insulation at around £250 per year. The savings will vary depending on how much of your home has a flat roof.

Remember, if you qualify, PT Energy Solutions could provide you with this insulation for free through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO3) scheme.
