Insulate your solid walls and save up to £375 a year
If your home was built before the 1920’s, it’s outside walls are most likely to be solid rather than cavity walls. By insulating the walls you will dramatically reduce heat loss during the winter months. It will also help you stay cooler in the summer.
Most solid wall properties are not insulated.
Solid walls can be insulated from the inside or the outside. This costs more that insulating a standard cavity wall, but the savings on your heating bills will be bigger too.
If you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit or qualify under the Local Authority Flex scheme, you could receive free solid wall insulation.
What type of wall have I got?
If you can see the brickwork on the outside of your home, have a look at the pattern of the bricks. If you only see long bricks in an even pattern, it’s likely to be a cavity wall. But, if you see a pattern of long and short bricks, it is likely that you have got solid walls.
Cavity Wall Solid Wall
If the brickwork has been covered up, measure the thickness of the wall from a window opening. If the wall is more than 26cm thick then it is probably a cavity wall. But if it’s thinner – usually around 22cm (9 inches) – it’s probably solid.
Stone walls will usually be thicker, but are usually solid.
Save energy, save money
Up to 35% of heat lost is through uninsulated solid walls. Insulation is an easy way to save energy and money. The Energy Saving Trust says that by installing solid wall insulation you could save up to £375 per year.
Remember, if you qualify, PT Energy Solutions could provide you with this insulation for free through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO3) scheme.
